First Colonial Williamsburg ad hits NY Times
We just completed seven ads for Colonial Williamsburg. The first one ran yesterday, in the Travel section of the New York Times and the Washington Post. The campaign highlights the two main aspects of Colonial Williamsburg — the historic area, and also the modern spa/resort section. Each ad starts with a scene from the historic area, on the left side, and then transitions into the spa/resort side, on the right side of the ad. This first one, “Cannonball”, starts with the soldiers firing the cannon on the left, and then a young boy blasting into a cannonball in the spa indoor pool. Collect all seven, once they’ve run!
AD/Historian: Jamin Hoyle; Copywriter: Trevor Sloan; AE: Christine Eubanks; Clients: Amy Kerr, Barbara Tyler, Jae White; AB: Megan MacCutcheon; Producer: Brett Sahler; Clothing: Cecelia Mason; Assistants: Derrick Hood, Jon Morgan, David Weaver; ChewingGum Monitor: Amanda.

Nice concept. Will be watching for the others.
Just looked at your production photos from a few weeks ago… for that boy jumping into the pool — scary — all that electricity/strobes/powerpacks so close to the water… do you have a union electrician on the set? Special circuit breakers? A little nerve wracking, I would guess.
Love the weave between modern and historic with the Cannon ball boy.
Good stuff! Hope you were chewing a big ‘ol piece of bubble gum when you wrote this!
Poor Amanda…probably in therapy somewhere right about now…
You all didn’t drive me to therapy yet…but I seriously considered it. Maybe if I see another photographer or grip running around the Capitol with gum in his mouth, I just might need to be committed. I have to admit that I did have a good time laying down the law curator-style though and of course, getting the chance to work with you all!!
There is a Colonial Williamsburg radio spot airing here in the Philadelphia market that is very similar to this print ad.
First, you hear re-enactors yelling “Charge the piece!” and “We must fire the cannon!” Then you hear a re-enactor yelling “Fire the…” which cuts into a boy yelling “CANNONBALL!”
The kid then asks, “Did I get you, Dad?”
Fun ad…and blog. I am doing research about turning 50, and came across your party pictures in my not-so random search. You are my kind of people. Looking forward to reading more…but I now have to go back to my imagination intensive (aka drinking coffee, tooling around the web, and figuring out how we go about approaching the odometer turning into the 5o-somethings).
Have a great day,
